Marta Kaminska is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Clinical Science, Faculty of Medicine. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry in 2022 from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. Shortly after completing her doctorate, she joined the Broegelmann Research Laboratory in Norway as a researcher.Â
Marta’s research focuses on the role of post-translational protein modifications in chronic inflammatory diseases, with particular interest in how these modifications influence the function and integrity of the brain’s microvasculature. She investigates the vascular implications of carbamylation, a non-enzymatic protein modification increasingly recognized for its role in endothelial dysfunction. Additionally, she explores citrullination in the context of autoimmune disorders, studying how this enzymatically driven process may contribute to aberrant immune responses and tissue damage. Her work combines biochemical techniques, enzymatic activity profiling, cell biology approaches, spatial proteomics, and advanced computational analyses to better understand how conditions such as periodontitis, inflammaging, and neurodegeneration are interconnected. By examining cellular processes alongside molecular signatures, she aims to reveal how dysregulated cell signaling and intercellular interactions contribute to disease pathology. Through this interdisciplinary approach, Marta strives to uncover novel molecular pathways driving disease progression and identify potential therapeutic targets.Â
