Momentum delegate Helene Hisken

Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Physics and Technology

Main content

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the group for energy and process techonology at the Department of Physics and Techonology at UiB. My area of research is explosion physics and CFD modelling of gas explosion phenomena in the context of process safety. I am especially interested in exploring the strength of knowledge associated with using consequence model results in risk analysis of systems involving carbon-free energy carriers (such as hydrogen). Furthermore, I wish to promote collaboration and the exchange of knowledge between industry, academia and regulatory bodies to enhance the understanding of explosion physics and the predictive capabilities of consequence models.

I have worked over 14 years in industry before starting on my first full-time academic position as a postdoctoral researcher. I have previous experience from being a software developer, safety advisor, department manager, and certification engineer, and also held a position as associate professor II at the Department of Physics and Technology in the period from 2021-2024. My current position is associated with the KSP project Large-Scale Offshore Hydrogen Storage for Green Energy Transition (Hy4GET), where the goal is to perform a feasibility study for large-scale offshore hydrogen storage in salt caverns.Â
