Faculty of Humanities, Department of Philosophy
Main content
Lukas Skiba is Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy. Before joining UiB, he was Assistant Professor at the University of Hamburg and a member of the Emmy Noether Research Group 鈥淥ntology after Quine 鈥 Fictionalism and Fundamentality.鈥 Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral researcher (Analysis Fellowship) at the University of Cambridge, where he also obtained his PhD with a dissertation on the work of the philosopher, logician, and mathematician Gottlob Frege, one of the founding fathers of contemporary analytic philosophy.听
Most of Lukas鈥 work lies at the intersection of metaphysics with the philosophy of logic and language. He has worked on foundational questions on the nature of modality and time, on formal theories of properties and propositions, and on the language and logic of fictional discourse. More recently, he has developed an interest in the philosophy of AI, in particular in the semantics and pragmatics of artificially generated text.听
In November and December 2025, he will be a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Oxford and St. John鈥檚 College, Oxford.听
