About the film:

Would you like to join us for a walk on the shore? Smile and Wave is a film essay about a coastal landscape in Vesterålen, Norway.

High-tide water and memories are mixed together in the story of the vulnerability of life and what remains when something is gone.

Can you say something about life by portraying a place? Can you understand more of yourself by examining your passions?Ìý

At Nordahlstranda in Bø in VesterÃ¥len, you can wade for hours in overalls and rubber boots and find treasures. The common heart urchin is magical and secret, thinner than an eggshell and just as vulnerable as you and me. A film about how nature activates our memories and our curiosity. Ebb and flow all day, your whole life. A slow breath that never ends. As if death did not exist. In a universe of common heart urchins, waving angels and skeletons, a story of a life emerges. A beautiful, poetic and thought-provoking film.Ìý

Smile og vinke won During Nordic/Docs 2022, the director, Eva Nilsen, was Guest of Honor during the festival and several of her films were shown in a retrospective program. Nilsen also received the Nordic/Docs Honorary Award 2022.

The film has Norwegian audio and English subtitles.
