Study topology in Bergen

What is topology?

Topology - the mathematical study of space - is not usually touched upon in the first two years of the bachelor's program in mathematics at UiB. If you are wondering about this important branch of mathematics that you might be missing out on, you are welcome to come and talk with one of us.

The courses in general topology (MAT242) and manifolds (MAT243) are independent beginners courses that provide a first introduction to the field. If you want to study topology, at least one of these courses must be taken during the first three years of the bachelor's degree. The course in algebraic topology (MAT341) is a master's level course that provides an introduction to the field of research we topologists in Bergen work in. The further study for master's degree students who specialise in topology consists of reading courses that are planned jointly with the supervisor.
