Algebraic Geometry

Algebraic geometry studies geometric objects that have an algebraic structure: curves, surfaces and higher dimensional manifolds that locally can be described as zero loci of systems of polynomials. Here there is a rich interplay with modern abstract algebra, topology and complex analysis. Some of the issues are classic and go back up to two hundred years, while others are, for example, related to problems in modern theoretical physics.
