Solvers for mixed dimensional flow

Solvers for mixed dimensional flow and mechanics on the fracture-matrix interface

The goal of the project is to develop mathematical model and solution approaches to rupture dynamics including advanced friction laws in the presence of fluids.

Main content

This project will consider the dynamical evolution of聽spontaneous ruptures embedded in an elastic deforming body, governed by rate- and state friction laws. The resulting model聽is based on聽mixed dimensional differential equations:聽Biot-Allard in the matrix coupled to flow on the fracture surface including the friction laws on the fracture interfaces.
