The Museum Garden Greenhouse - Warm house
In the warm house, the climate is warm and humid all year round with small temperature variations around 26°C and a humidity close to 100%. Ideally, our seasons should not be noticeable here, as the plants come from tropical areas, close to the equator. It can be a little cooler at night, but should not be colder than 15°C.

The natural vegetation in such areas is basically tropical rainforest. On the mountain slopes, the daily temperature difference increases, but the climate is very stable in the lowlands. In some areas influenced by monsoon or trade winds, the amount of precipitation varies considerably during the year so that plants flower at particular times and some trees even shed their leaves in dry periods. There are also tropical areas (in rain shadow) that have drought-resistant tropical flora (succulents).
Tropical rainforests are dominated by large trees and are often very rich in species. It's almost dark on the ground and water is dripping from the trees. Unfortunately, we can't have the large rainforest trees in our small plant house, but we can show plants that grow on the large trees (epiphytes), those that are undergrowth in the forest or that are found in more or less open areas along rivers etc.
Many cultivated crop plants come from tropical areas and are economically important, such as coffee, cocoa, pepper, banana, coconut palm, vanilla, sweet potato and many others. We show some cultivated plants in the middle bed and others in the adjacent Palm House. Large parts of the tropical forests have now been cut down, destroyed and replaced by plantations. Other parts have been destroyed as a result of overexploitation of valuable tree species.
