Green Biomaterials

The goal of this Research Area is to highlight novel and recent approaches in the development of Green Biomaterials (e.g., polymers, ceramics, composites) for tissue regeneration. This research area is currently under construction and our research in this field will be presented on this webpage as it develops

With progressive fossil resource depletion, population growth, and waste production intensification occurring simultaneously at the global level, advanced green technologies are needed in every field of research to address the global ecological burden. Within this scenario, in connection with research, we consider methods for developing, validating, sterilizing, and manufacturing biomaterials on a large scale.

As Green Biomaterials grow in popularity, they face many challenges, including ensuring high quality standards and ensuring safety regulations are met. To this purpose, many interdisciplinary approaches could be exploited, including biomass and waste valorizing, pollutant reduction and the proper application of sustainable technologies. The goal of this Research Area is to highlight novel and recent approaches in the development of Green Biomaterials (e.g., polymers, ceramics, composites) for tissue regeneration. The issue will cover research work based on the selection, design and synthesis of green biomaterials using novel techniques aiming at reducing toxic and harmful chemicals and through the valorization of waste-derived renewable compounds in an effort to progress towards a cyclic 鈥渮ero waste鈥 economy.
