LAS 301/601 Core module in Laboratory Animal Science
This is the core module in the education program for researchers using animals in research. This part is common for both fish and mammals.

Main content
The course shall cover the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynets) and the EU-directives (2010/63) demands to theoretical training for persona performing procedures on animals (group A) or planning or designing experiments on animals (group B) .

LAS Includes laws, regulations, ethics, factors of animals and external factors that influence experiments, literature search, planning and design of experiments as well as cooperation between different actors involved in the experiment.

Lectures and study materials
All study materials are in English and available via mitt.uib
An introductory lecture is held on zoom
In addition, there are 2 consecutive days of student contact via zoom
Work requirements
Mandatory work requirements are:聽

The course ends with a mandatory group assignment
Active contribution to this is required to take the exam
Exam
- Course exam 60 minutes multiple choice/short answer
- Assessment pass/fail (80% correct is pass)
Course outline
- Allow enough time to work with material in Canvas/mitt.uib
- Material: Text, presentations/video, self-tests
- 2 following days with lectures and Q&A - requires that all study material has been reviewed
