Professor from the Department of Biological Sciences and Professor from the Department of Geography previously headed the project, which was funded by the mutual African-European innovation initiative LEAP AGRI with the Norwegian share funded via the Research Council of Norway. A major partner in the project was the Institute of Marine Research with researcher as a key contributor to both this project and other collaborations with the UiB researchers. The project ended in 2023. Along with the other international partners in SmallFishFood the project resulted in a publication for the United Nations (UN) Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) entitled 鈥淪mall fish for food security and nutrition鈥.
Immediately afterwards Kolding, Over氓 and Kjellevold applied for continued funding through an SDG Pilots Call for the new 鈥淪mall fish for food and nutrition security in Africa鈥 project, or SmallFish4Food in short. The SDG Pilots Call is an initiative from the Global Research Council, an international network of national funding bodies including the Research Council of Norway. In the acceptance letter SmallFish4Food is described as 鈥渧ery relevant鈥 and 鈥渆xcellently conceptualized鈥. .
In addition to this Kolding and Over氓 have been awarded funding for yet another project funded by the Research Council of Norway. SmallFishClim also builds on the SmallFishFood project but with a particular emphasis on climate change. Over氓 presented this project in June at the House of Literature in Oslo in a seminar organised by the Research Council of Norway,聽who fund the project via the聽New Frontiers Research Fund 2023 International Joint Initiative for Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.
The official launch of the two new projects will take place Thursday 5 September 11:30-12:30 at NG5 (Nyg氓rdsgaten 5), in the meeting room called Sydneshaugen.
