Horizon Europe is the EU’s flagship research and innovation program, designed to enhance Europe’s scientific excellence, drive industrial innovation, and address pressing societal challenges. With a budget of €95.5 billion, the program is structured around three key pillars.

1. Excellent Science

This pillar aims to reinforce the EU's leadership in science by supporting top researchers and fostering collaboration on groundbreaking research. It includes:

  • European Research Council (ERC): Provides competitive grants for individual researchers, including Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, and Synergy Grants, awarded based on scientific excellence across all disciplines.

  • Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA): Supports fellowships and exchange programs to promote international mobility and interdisciplinary collaboration, including postdoctoral fellowships, doctoral networks, and staff exchanges.

  • Digital, Industry, and Space

  • European Innovation Council (EIC): Provides grants and equity investments for start-ups, SMEs, and individual innovators with disruptive ideas. Funding opportunities include:

    • Pathfinder Grants for early-stage research.

    • Transition Grants for proof-of-concept projects.

    • Accelerator Grants for scaling up businesses.

  • European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT): Supports Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) that address societal challenges by fostering collaboration between businesses, research organizations, and universities.

  • European Innovation Ecosystems: Strengthens regional and national innovation initiatives by funding projects that promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and entrepreneurship.
