The application numbers at UiB show that more and more people are choosing study programs in political science at both bachelor's and master's levels. The Department's bachelor's program in Politics and Governance has seen an increase of as much as 46% in the number of first-choice applicants. The master's program in Politics and Governance has increased by 17%, and for the third year in a row, we also see growth in the application numbers for the Master's program Politics and Governance of Global Challenges – this time with an increase of 12%.
This is fantastic news! We are very pleased that so many see that we have relevant and exciting studies to offer in times when competence in politics and administration is more important than ever. Solid knowledge of governance, politics, and organization is crucial whether you are going to work in Norway or internationally, says Head of Department Lise Rykkja.
With the increase of 12%, the Master's program Politics and Governance of Global Challenges again landed in the top ten at UiB, with a ninth place measured by the number of first-choice applicants. Measured by first-choice applicants per study place, the program is in an impressive second place.
Lise Rakner, program coordinator for the Master's program Politics and Governance of Global Challenges is very satisfied with these numbers too:
Understanding the relationship between politics and administration is perhaps the most important question right now - what happens when autocratic and populist leaders decide to get rid of expert councils and politically neutral bureaucrats? How should a country collect taxes when the president fires the entire tax administration? Our subject has never been more important! It is certainly no wonder that students are applying to political science programs that focus on global challenges and organizations - how should we understand a world that seems to change every single day, from "tweet to tweet"?
We are now eagerly awaiting the final admission numbers – and look forward to meeting all the new students this Autumn!
