Nobel Symposium on Multiple Sclerosis Highlights EBV Link

For the first time, a Nobel Symposium has been dedicated to Multiple Sclerosis (MS), bringing global experts to Stockholm on June 2–5, 2025. Hosted at the Karolinska Institutet, the symposium - “Multiple Sclerosis: From Molecular Mechanisms to Disease-Modifying Treatments” - features leading researchers from Europe and the U.S., including several key members of the EBV-MS consortium.

The event includes three closed scientific days followed by an open public day. A central theme is the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in MS, with extensive discussions highlighting recent advances in understanding the virus’s contribution to disease mechanisms.

Key speakers include Professors Alberto Ascherio, Gavin Giovannoni, Maja Jagodic, and Fredrik Piehl - each playing central roles in the EBV-MS project. Professor Piehl and Professor Jagodic, both based at Karolinska Institutet, are also co-organizers of the symposium.

The program covers a wide range of topics including neuroimmunology, novel biomarkers, and disease-modifying therapies. The event marks a milestone in elevating MS research on the Nobel stage.

Photos and a summary of the event will be shared soon via the EBV-MS website and partner channels.
