The 2021 theme is Prioritising Climate Action:
Society is inevitably moving beyond oil.ÌýÌý
However,ÌýambiguousÌýtargets andÌýplans forÌýphasing outÌýfossil fuelsÌýareÌýnotÌýsufficientÌýfor solving the climateÌýemergency.ÌýClimate actionÌýmustÌýbeÌýaÌýpriorityÌýacrossÌýall areas ofÌýsociety.ÌýWe must ask ourselves whatÌýit meansÌýto prioritiseÌýclimateÌýactionÌý- for the individual, our economy,ÌýourÌýpolitical decisions,ÌýandÌýourÌýsocietal institutions.ÌýHow can we overcomeÌýsimplistic binaries betweenÌýwelfareÌýand convenience onÌýone hand, andÌýresponding to the climate emergencyÌýon the other?Ìý
How do we mobilise theÌýsocietalÌýchangeÌýnecessary toÌýmakeÌýprioritisation ofÌýclimateÌýaction aÌýreality?ÌýÌý
Beyond Oil is an interdisciplinary conference organized every two years by theÌýCentre for Climate and Energy Transformation (CET) at the University of Bergen.ÌýWeÌýprovide anÌýarena forÌýdebatingÌýhow to moveÌýsocietyÌýbeyond oil,ÌýinÌýitsÌýbroadestÌýsense.ÌýThisÌýyear'sÌýconferenceÌýwill diveÌýdeeperÌýintoÌýresponses to the climate emergency, considering potential synergiesÌýandÌýtrade-offs.ÌýWe invite scholarsÌýfrom a range of disciplinesÌýtoÌýunpack andÌýexploreÌýthe roleÌýof climate change todayÌýand theÌýpotentialÌýoutcomesÌýof makingÌýclimate actionÌýa top priority in the future.ÌýÌýÌý

Conference venue:ÌýHouse of Literature (Litteraturhuset) Østre Skostredet 5, 5017 Bergen
How to get there:
If you arrive at Bergen Railway station, you are already in the middle of Bergen city. The Railways station is in walking distance to most facilities in the city centre.
If you arrive at Bergen Airport, Flesland, there are several ways of getting to the city centre:
Bergen light rail runs from Bergen airport to ‘Byparken’, in the city centre. The trip takes 45 minutes.
The airport bus (Flybussen) has frequent departures to the city centre. The bus ride will take you 25-45 minutes, depending on the traffic.
The conference will be organized in line with the CET Low-Carbon Travel Policy.
From September 25th Norway goes back to a everyday life with increased preparedness.
