
Food and Water Security in a changing world

The research school offers two parallel PhD courses:
Maximum of 20 participants in each course at Makerere University, plus 5 at a hub in Bergen.
The two parallel courses of MBRS will focus on and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and use the (e.g., the transboundary Mount Elgon in Uganda/Kenya) as an empirical case study.
The world is currently facing multiple challenges caused by human action in the Anthropocene. The impacts of a changing climate, growing populations, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and more recently economic distortions due to Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, pose complex challenges for humanity and all other living beings.听The two courses will discuss interconnected threats and opportunities to the food system and for water security in a sustainability perspective.

Makerere-Bergen Research School builds on the annual Bergen Summer Research School, which every year welcomes 100 PhD candidates from all over the world to spend two weeks with some of Bergen鈥檚 best research groups.听
