Hawassa University in Ethiopia and the Centre for International Health (CIH) at the University of Bergen (UiB) have had a long-lasting, productive scientific co-operation in Global Health. In 2015, the two universities developed a joint PhD degree programme.

Bjarne Robberstad was part of an international team of researchers who undertook a large randomly controlled trial (RCT) in Kenya and Uganda. The results are now published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Julia Regina Brandenberger successfully defended her thesis, entitled 鈥淎sylum-seeking children at a Swiss tertiary hospital鈥�, 11 November 2020. She is a Doctor Philosophiae (Dr. philos) Candidate from both the Centre for International Health (CIH) at the University of Bergen (UiB) and the University Children鈥檚 Hospital Basel.

Early initiation of alcohol and other harmful substance use is an important predictor for developing substance use disorders in later life. CIH and CIH-associated researchers have undertaken a study reporting on the existence of childhood alcohol abuse and dependency in Eastern Uganda.

The special circumstances around 2020 led to the annual PhD conference from the Norwegian Research School of Global Health being first postponed and then transformed to an online conference.

CIH PhD Candidate, Christine H. 脴degaard, was part of a team of researchers who recently published results about how mental health recovery was facilitated when patients were given options of different therapies and provided with education about the benefits, drawbacks, and evidence for the available treatments.

The Centre for Health Research and Development at the Society for Applied 大象传媒 in New Delhi undertook a large randomized controlled trial in India together with CISMAC researchers and the Haryana government to estimate the effect of the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses strategy (IMNCI).
