We study the regulation of gene expression, especially RNA alternative splicing,听in development, ageing and disease. Mutations in splicing factors are听responsible for genetic diseases (such as retinitis pigmentosa), their levels听change dramatically with ageing and senescence, and splicing factor levels are听highly dysregulated in cancer. The target genes of this dysregulation are often听unknown and represent an important but poorly understood class of biomarkers.
We employ a combination of wet-lab and informatics approaches using RNAseq听and CLIP-seq to interrogate the regulatory networks controlling gene听expression from transcription through to RNA processing.
This seminar will provide a broad introduction to the field, covering our past听contributions, and our current projects, on alternative splicing regulation and听disease.

The CCBIO Seminar series fulfills several aims.
- Firstly, it conveys relevant biomarker research to the local scientific community and students and younger researchers in particular, providing the ground for future recruitment.
- Secondly, it is part of two formal courses, BMED 380 on the master level, and together with the CCBIO Annual Symposium, forms CCBIO 902, a PhD level course.
- Last, but not least, the CCBIO seminars with their subsequent open pizza get-together are an important arena for informal interaction between international researchers, CCBIO PIs and other CCBIO staff as well as interested researchers and students in general.
